Experienced Tractor Technician

Position Summary

Riddle Tractor is seeking an experienced Tractor Technician to join our Service Department. This is not an entry-level technician position. We are looking for an individual who already possesses the technical knowledge, diagnostic ability, and hands-on experience necessary to independently diagnose and repair tractors and related equipment.

Kubota experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with formal training, manufacturer certification, or substantial experience working on John Deere, Case IH, New Holland, Bobcat, Caterpillar, Mahindra, Kioti, or other agricultural, construction, diesel, or compact equipment are encouraged to apply.

The right candidate will be capable of becoming productive quickly with limited basic mechanical training. Riddle Tractor will provide Kubota-specific product and systems training as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities

The Tractor Technician is responsible for accurately diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining tractors and related equipment while producing quality billable work in an efficient manner.

Responsibilities include:

• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fuel, drivetrain, and electronic system problems on tractors and related equipment.
• Perform repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydrostatic systems, hydraulic systems, axles, final drives, PTO systems, steering systems, and related components.
• Diagnose electrical and electronic faults using wiring diagrams, diagnostic equipment, multimeters, manufacturer software, and technical service information.
• Troubleshoot modern CAN-bus and electronically controlled equipment when applicable.
• Perform engine, transmission, hydraulic, and major component repairs and replacements.
• Perform scheduled maintenance and preventative maintenance services.
• Diagnose and repair attachments, implements, loaders, backhoes, and associated hydraulic systems.
• Conduct thorough equipment inspections and identify additional necessary repairs or maintenance.
• Prepare accurate repair estimates by identifying required labor, parts, and additional work.
• Complete assigned work within established labor-time expectations whenever reasonably possible.
• Maintain accurate technician notes documenting:
  • Customer complaint
  • Diagnostic procedures performed
  • Cause of failure
  • Repairs completed
  • Parts used
  • Additional recommended repairs
• Properly document warranty repairs in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
• Communicate with Service Advisors and the Shop Foreman regarding repair status, additional required repairs, parts needs, and unexpected delays.
• Perform post-repair operational testing to verify repairs before equipment is returned to the customer.
• Maintain an organized, professional, and safe work area.
• Properly use and maintain shop tools, diagnostic equipment, lifting equipment, and specialty tools.
• Follow all dealership, manufacturer, OSHA, and shop safety procedures.
• Participate in manufacturer training and continuing technical education.
• Assist other technicians with diagnostics or repairs when appropriate.
• Protect customer equipment and dealership property while equipment is in the technician’s care.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should possess most or all of the following:

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience repairing tractors, agricultural equipment, compact construction equipment, diesel equipment, heavy equipment, or closely related machinery.
• Formal technical training, manufacturer certification, dealership training, military technical training, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing and repairing diesel-powered equipment.
• Strong working knowledge of:
  • Diesel engines
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Charging and starting systems
  • Fuel systems
  • Transmissions and drivetrains
  • Steering and braking systems
• Ability to independently perform diagnostic work rather than relying solely on parts replacement or trial-and-error troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret:
  • Electrical schematics
  • Hydraulic schematics
  • Service manuals
  • Technical service bulletins
  • Diagnostic procedures
• Experience using diagnostic tools including multimeters, pressure gauges, scan tools, laptops, and manufacturer diagnostic software.
• Ability to safely operate tractors and related equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to provide a basic set of professional mechanic’s hand tools.
• Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with equipment repair.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Kubota technician experience or Kubota certification.
• Current or previous manufacturer certifications from a major equipment manufacturer.
• Agricultural equipment dealership experience.
• Compact construction equipment experience.
• Advanced diesel diagnostic experience.
• Hydraulic diagnostic and repair experience.
• Electrical and electronic diagnostic expertise.
• Experience with Tier 4 diesel emissions systems, including:
  • DPF systems
  • Regeneration systems
  • Common-rail fuel systems
  • Sensors and electronic engine controls
• Experience performing major engine, transmission, or hydraulic component repairs.
• Welding or fabrication skills.
• HVAC diagnostic and repair experience.
• Manufacturer warranty repair experience.

Productivity Expectations

This position is intended for an experienced technician capable of contributing immediately.

Technicians are expected to:

• Maintain productive use of available shop time.
• Generate appropriate billable labor relative to hours worked.
• Accurately diagnose equipment before beginning major repairs.
• Minimize unnecessary parts replacement and comeback repairs.
• Properly document labor performed.
• Complete repairs correctly the first time.
• Communicate promptly when additional authorization, parts, or technical assistance is required.

Performance will be evaluated using a combination of quality, efficiency, productivity, accuracy, safety, customer satisfaction, and teamwork, rather than billed hours alone.

Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to:

• Regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work around equipment.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment for extended periods.
• Lift and carry components weighing approximately 50 pounds without assistance.
• Work safely around heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, moving components, fuels, oils, batteries, and electrical systems.
• Work in both indoor shop conditions and outdoor conditions when necessary.

Training

Riddle Tractor is willing to invest in manufacturer-specific training for an experienced technician.

A successful candidate does not need to arrive as a Kubota expert. However, the candidate must already possess a strong mechanical and diagnostic foundation.

Riddle Tractor will provide access to applicable Kubota technical training, service information, diagnostic systems, specialty tools, and continuing education necessary to develop Kubota-specific expertise.
